_ZQ'd. Thread That Needle
Herewith is a recent Facebook discussion:
Hello Dan,
First of all, though I'm fairly technologically savvy (or can at least fake it pretty well for a 53 year old) - I really don't "get" all the social media stuff - blogs, LinkdIn (though I have an account), Twitter, Flitter, Flutter... There is just not enough time in my day to be able to follow a bunch of people's blogs. It seems like there has to be some huge number of people that do just that though. Guess those are the ones who have been leaving you spam. I DO enjoy personal messages from people I know - present and past. I am always happy to hear of plans - sorry to hear of disappointments - and often encouraged by others.
My life is (and has been) pretty full of stuff I have to do - and I try to still fit in stuff I want to do. I'm trying to launch my new business, but neglected to purchase an extra 30 hours in my week in order to accomplish that. What do I give up? We make plans - we make commitments - but for some of us, Life gets in the way (as they say). For some, Life gets in the way in very unpleasant ways.
Some events are out of our control, but yet, we want to try to control and pick up the pieces as best as we can. Others can just walk away from unpleasantness - I don't think that's in either of our DNA makeup. So, we get frustrated.
I do appreciate and applaud your change of career plan - may it all go well and you feel like you can help others as a teacher - that's still a caregiver - though a somewhat different role. Living life is being a caregiver - but it seems to me that too many people are more interested in caring for themselves (I find it to be rather self-centered) - but they don't see that. I think that's the camp of "I deserve to be happy - and don't you mess that up for ME".
I'm flattered, but confused as to why you think I have so much insight - but appreciate it nonetheless. Carry on and have as nice of a Thanksgiving as you can.

Hi M, One of your redeeming attributes is seeing projects through to the end (just think about how unfinished quilts make you feel...crazy?). Being the older and "sager" one around here (I am 54 and that's what gives me qualifications to speak) I recognize many situations. Cryptic? Eclectic? Acerbic? It doesn't get better "just because we don't know what it's like to wear the shoe on the other foot."
Can we love someone we don't know, haven't met, and with whom we will never interact? I don't worry about messing things up for others. They do that quite nicely by themselves. In fact I don't have any other plans for my caregiver's cause. I did the best I could to form an impetus for generating support. Someone else can eventually appreciate it. Meanwhile I will pursue my love of math.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Dan
